3 Decorating Ideas for Winter Window Treatments

Inspire your windows with these 3 decorating ideas for winter window treatments and keep cozy during these cold months.  Consider the following ideas: adding a cheerful statement, considering bold prints and dressing up plain curtains.

Adding a Cheerful Statement
Think big and bright when making these bold ornaments. Red and green scrapbooking paper in fun patterns adorns shapes cut from poster board. We found ornament silhouettes online then enlarged them to suit the window. Glue three papers onto each ornament. Punch a hole at the top, then hang them on red cording or yarn taped to the top of the window. A valance of live greens finishes the display. Source: MidwestLiving

Considering Bold Prints
Bright florals that attract traditional tastes and graphic geometric patterns that offer youthful spunk are some of the bold prints being seen on windows lately. “With pattern becoming more important, it will change the way a designer designs for the window and how the client views her [or his] window fashion,” says Barrett. Dressing up Plain Curtains
Although it’s hard to go wrong with simple, solid sheers or panels, why not take them a step further? Give them a custom look by painting on a pattern or stencil, try glueing on embellishments such as silk flowers, beads or pom-poms. Or add bands of contrasting fabric to the bottoms of curtains that need a little boost.
Budget: Modest. Pretty trims can be had for a few dollars, and unadorned curtain panels for not much more. You also can go heavy on humble fabrics and light on expensive ones to get a more upscale look for less cash.
DIY: Absolutely, whether you’re working the sewing machine or wielding a glue gun. Source: DIYNetwork

Community action

There's few better sights for those who work tirelessly behind the scenes in Non-League football than queues. Queues at the turnstiles, queues at the bar, queues to buy half-time raffle tickets. The crowds had flocked to St Paul's Stadium for this game that pitted bottom v second to bottom of the Southern Counties East Football League. Prior to today's game, the biggest attendance since returning home in the summer was 189 for the opening league encounter with Corinthian. With ten minutes until kick off it was clear that number would be broken for this game.

Who benefits from Stadium naming rights?

There’s a fantastic new book that’s been published by Leon Gladwell called “Beyond the turnstile” which is full of oustanding pictures from his quest to capture the beauty of the game around the world.  Leon contacted me about 18 months ago and asked me to write the forward for his book, which I was absolutely […]

Ten Ingredient Alkalizing Green Soup

This is my anti-dote to the holidays with all their sweets, drinks, and, cold, short days. You put ten ingredients in a blender, puree, and then decide if you'd like to enjoy the soup hot or cold. In winter, I like the gently heated option, but keep in mind, this this is also a fantastic summer soup when served chilled. It's a potent jolt of alkalizing vegetables and herbs, with some staying power thanks to the fat in the silky coconut cream, and the protein-rich split green peas. Serve topped with whatever herbs, sprouts, or nuts you might have on hand, or simply straight and green.

A few considerations - in winter, heat the soup gently. Just shy of a simmer. And just before serving. This will help maintain the beneficial qualities of the miso, and more of the alkalizing power of the greens.

Happy holidays everyone. I'll post some more clean eating favorites to the front page in the coming days & weeks for new year inspiration.
